You will be met at Foligno station at 11.30 and transported to the accommodation nearby.

You will be transferred to the accommodation near Montefalco in time for lunch in the garden, and an introductory talk by your local hosts, on the area, the fresco cycles and the local towns.
The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.

Fri 19 June 2020 Day 2 Lunch and Dinner are included Overnight at Montefalco
Morning slow walk with pauses for drawing under the guidance of John Haycraft.
Lunch in Montefalco at a local restaurant specialising in regional recipes and home cooking.
With local artist Neil Moore, we visit the church of San Francesco in Montefalco now the town's museum with the stunning apse of the choir under the gaze of the beautiful 15th century frescos by Benozzo Gozzoli. Inspired by the revolutionary frescos attributed to Giotto in Assisi, Gozzoli indulges in his favourite cityscapes, especially the background view of Montefalco painted over 500 years ago.
The afternoon is free to explore the town, stay for some more drawing or photography, or walk back to the accommodation.

Sat 20 June 2020 Day 3 Lunch and Dinner Overnight at Montefalco
In the morning we head to the stunning medieval town of Spello, with drawing exercises overseen by John Haycraft
With surrounding walls in fairytale pink and cream stone, the essence of Spello is the tiny laneways lined with flower clad balconies tended with great devotion by the local people, the toga clad Roman sculptures standing guard over the entrance gates and the cobblestone laneways with all their beautiful detail unchanged for centuries.

Spello is home to a great treasure of art, "The Annunciation" by Pinturicchio - introoduced by Neil Moore
There will be some free time after lunch for you to take in the atmosphere and visit the local traditional art and artisans shops.

Leisurely lunch & drawing in the garden at Camiano
After lunch we visit Deruta which has been a major ceramics centre since medieval times. Here you will be shown through a selection of some of the 300 outlets selling plates, bowls and anything else that might be made of terracotta.
Mon 22 June 2020 Day 5 B Overnight Montefalco
Our guided tour includes a walk through the medieval ghost town under Rocca Paolina. The virtual underground city was a stroke of genius by the architect who was ordered to destroy the area. The tour also includes a visit to an Etruscan well and the extraordinary Etruscan gate from the 2nd century BC.
Bevagna & a country lunch
Tue 23 June 2020 Day 6 B L Overnight Montefalco
We travel to Luciana’s country estate, a beautiful place in the hills above Bevagna, for an elegant lunch and to meet your gorgeous host. You can participate in the preparations with Luciana if you choose to or sip wine in the garden, and enjoy the landscape
In the afternoon we visit Bevagna. Down in the valley and just a short distance from Montefalco, Bevagna is one of Umbria's most evocative towns. The town contains Roman ruins and has a beautifully evocative piazza encircled by three churches. There is some free time to enjoy the ambience of this delightful Umbrian town and we visit a medieval house and roman mosaics as part of the guided exploration of this small gem.
Wed 24 June 2020 Day 7 B Overnight Montefalco
LThe morning is at leisure and lunch at the accommodation.
4PM We drive to Spoleto for a guided tour of this town, rich in Roman and medieval history. The special qualities of the afternoon light are captured as we head into Spoleto where we begin with a short orientation stroll entering the town over the dramatic "Ponte delle Torri", a medieval aqueduct bridge with 10 towering arches to the main square. We explore the ancient Roman centre of the town including the Roman house and visit the Duomo to see Filippo Lippi's final fresco cycle

Fri 26 June 2020 Day 9 B Overnight in Montefalco
In the morning travel to Orvieto where there will be free time to explore the town centre with its fascinating array of shops, cafes and an award-winning gelateria. The day includes a guided visit to the Duomo, among the greatest of all Italy’s cathedrals, containing the work of Luca Signorelli. Lunch at a well known local restaurant.

On the last day of the tour you will be transferred to Fiumicino, leaving the accommodation at 9am and anticipated arrival for check-in by 12 midday. Please don't book any international flights that depart prior to 3pm.
Camiano Piccolo is a family run country guesthouse located just outside the walls of the medieval hilltown of Montefalco, where a cluster of farm buildings has been converted into high quality accommodation. All rooms are furnished with solid antiques and have their own bathroom and private entrances. There is a shady garden with a swimming pool and spectacular views across the Valley of Umbria. The estate still produces their own vegetables, herbs, wine and olive oil which are used to prepare the delicious simple meals held in a pleasant dining room or outside under pine trees.
