The
itinerary begins in the foyer of Hotel Villa Schuler at 3pm.
We take you on a guided tour of Taormina with its world famous Greek
theatre and spectacular views of Mount Etna. This evening we dine together
in a local trattoria

Taormina Cooking Class B L
Meet your chef Angelo from Licchio's restaurant who takes
you to the local markets where you wade through shouting locals and the best
organic food to purchase the ingredients needed for your cooking class. The
lesson takes 3 to 4 hours and is run in the restaurant. The menu will
include
Typical Sicilian
antipasto starter
How to make fresh “Maccheroni pasta”
Preparation for the “Caponata” (a characteristic Sicilian vegetable side
dish)
Fish or Meat dish a range between Sicilian meat balls, Sicilian fish rolls,
Calamari ect
To accompany the meal, Angelo who is
a qualified Sommelier will present you with an appropriate Sicilian wine to
accompany each course.
The
afternoon is at leisure to waddle through Taormina trying to use up some of
the calories.
Tue
Taormina Walk
B
We set out this morning on 3 hour loop walk leaving from the villa (210
meters above sea level) with breathtaking sea views and
taking you into the countryside outside Taormina on a walk to Castelmola
(550 metres). Points of interest on the way include Madonna della Rocca with
it's scenic point overlooking Taormina, the Straits of Messina, the southern
Ionian coastline and of course the ever-present Mount Etna. Castelmola is a
delightful small medieval town with shops displaying Sicilian handicrafts
and ceramics. There
are coffee bars and
restaurants in the town and lunch is included. We walk back along another
scenic route via Porta Saracena. An extension to the return walk is possible
with a walk up to Mount Venere (885 metres)
which takes up to 4 hours / on request.

Mt Etna B D
A morning visit to Mount Etna, one of the world’s most active volcanoes
and at over 3000m the highest point on the island. We are fortunate to have
information provided by an enthusiastic Sicilian volcanologist who lives on
the slopes.
The drive up takes us through picturesque villages and an ever
changing landscape of vineyards, orange and lemon groves, Mediterranean
flora and finally the barren moonscape of the craters at the top.

A fascinating excursion into the area around
Taormina, completely in contrast to the resort aspect of Taormina itself.
The visits include a trip to the nearby village used in filming mafia sequences in
the Godfather.
Fri
Siracusa
B L
Today we travel south to Siracusa,
home to Archimedes and once a mega city of half a million people that was
once the Mediterranean’s preeminent metropolis, now home to a wealth of
archaeological remains .
We
explore the old city of Ortigia including Piazza Duomo and
the spectacular Baroque cathedral which was originally the city’s temple to
Athena. There will be some free time to wander the labyrinthine streets of
this UNESCO World Heritage site.
On the way home we visit the famed Greek theatre of Siracusa,
home at one time to the Greek playwright Aeschylus

Transfer to Catania airport where the tour officially ends at around 10am.
If your flight leaves before this time we can arrange a separate transfer
for you from the accommodation, however additional charges will apply.
