In the
afternoon there is an introductory walk around the town which includes
visits to some of the towns gorgeous linen shops - a traditional artisan
feature of Montefalco, and a tasting at the Pardi wine cellar just
outside of the historical centre. We also take a peek at the now famous
frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli painted in 1450 and where there is evidence
of a robust red wine on the tables of a feast.
You will be introduced to the
principal range of the area's wines over in the town's delightful piazza.
Followed by dinner in the piazza.
Day 2
Monday Fongoli &
Antonelli Cellars B L D

two of the regions' most prestigious wine makers,
The Fongoli

history is reflected in the beautiful small cellar, one of the most
evocative in the area, with a labyrinthine series of small to medium
rooms under the family residence stocked with barrels and bottles.
After a wine tasting and lunch on their shady terrace, we move next door
to the up market Antonelli estate an historical provider to the Vatican
of holy wine. After our tasting we are invited to wander through the

oaks. Transport back immediately if required

prestigious Caprai cellars one of the areas major award winners. Originally Roman,
Bevagna has a
beautifully evocative piazza encircled by three churches and containing
roman ruins. We have lunch in a characteristic small restaurant in the
town.
In the afternoon we travel to the delightful small hilltown of Spello
and include a wine tasting in a well known cantina and a glimpse of the
superb frescoes by the Umbrian Renaissance master Pinturicchio. Free
